We are a small team of collectors and importers based in Salt Lake City, Utah. We work directly with family workshops across Eastern Europe to bring their finest hand-painted nesting dolls to American collectors.
Where It All Began
Artisanal Babushkas started in 1998 with a simple observation: nearly every “matryoshka” sold online in the U.S. was factory-stamped, machine-finished, and soulless. We set out to offer the real thing — dolls from working painters, not assembly lines.
Each doll we carry has a name, a provenance, and a painter's signature. We know the workshop, the wood, and the hands that made it.
Our commitment is simple: only carry dolls we would proudly display in our own homes.

We pride ourselves in carrying a wide range of handcrafted nesting dolls made by skilled artisans from various countries across Europe, including Poland, Ukraine, and Russia. Our artisans come from diverse backgrounds and heritages, bringing their own unique style and craftsmanship to each doll.
We work closely with them to ensure that each doll is made with the highest level of quality and attention to detail. From traditional designs to more modern interpretations, our dolls are a beautiful representation of the artistry and creativity of Europe.

Since 2023, Artisanal Babushkas has been a featured vendor at Salt Lake City's beloved Christkindlmarkt — one of the premier European-style Christmas markets in the American West. Every winter, we set up our booth and invite visitors to hold, open, and fall in love with hand-painted nesting dolls in person.
